Collections: Fall 2014 issue forthcoming

Since 2008, I have had the pleasure of serving as Editor of Collections: A Journal for Museum and Archives Professionals, a peer-reviewed publication from Altamira Press, a division of Rowman and Littlefield. [Recent Tables of Contents are included at right. The TOC for 10.04 may be found here.]

Established in 2004, Collections is a multi-disciplinary journal for all aspects of handling, preserving, researching, and organizing collections. Practitioners, academics, students, and others turn to the journal for professional guidance, case studies, conference proceedings, reviews, and commentary of relevance to collections professionals in a broad range of fields. The purview of the journal includes living collections, historic and preserved specimens, maps, textiles, cultural property, including historic sites and art, and repositories relating to public and private collections and their associated documentation in Archives and Special Collections.

Collections: A Journal for Museum and Archives Professionals seeks to engage dialogue about collections across topics such as research, practice, discipline, focus, organizational structure, education, and advocacy. Discussion may address the sustainability of collections through current research and practice, or it may heighten awareness as to possible or actual threats to the persistence of collections.

Collections welcomes manuscript submissions that take the form of broad, theoretical discussions, 15-25 page case studies, 3-6 page opinion pieces, technical columns, and observations. Reviews of print publications and online resources are also welcome.
